COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 9, 2012) - The rivalry between the CSU-Pueblo and UC-Colorado Springs men's soccer teams continued Tuesday night with the teams battling to a 0-0 tie.
The game was fairly even as both teams battled to create any offensive oppotunitites. Even though the Pack was outshot 18-9, the ThunderWolves made the most of their shots by forcing Brandon Costa to make five saves.
Matt Marchena (Fr., Littleton, Colo.) and Jonny Sawyer (So., Aurora, Colo.) both paced the Pack offensively, finishing with two shots a piece. Rene Chacon (So., Pueblo, Colo.) and Sawyer both put quality shots on net in back-to-back chances in the second half, only to be turned away by Costa.
Patrick Markis (Sr., Tempe, Ariz.) continued his stellar keeper play by finishing with six saves in 110 minutes of work.
"They had their chances, we had our chances, it was just a great 110 minutes from our guys," coach Roy Stanley said. "It was an entertaining game and I'm proud of our guys and the team effort."
The Pack hits the road this weekend for a pair of games beginning Friday at Fort Lewis. Kick off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Dirks Field in Durango, Colo.
