Late goals doom Pack against Mines

GOLDEN, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 7, 2012) - The CSU-Pueblo men's soccer team came gave up two late second half goals to fall 3-1 to Colorado School of Mines. The Pack responded after giving up an early goal to tie it, but the Orediggers responded late to seal the game.

The Orediggers wasted little time getting down to business, when Chayce Moniz opened up the scoring at 1:58 in the game.

After giving up the lead early, the Pack finally began to settle down and play their game. Defensively, they were able to limit the Orediggers opportunities holding them to eight shots, none of which found the frame.

"I thought the middle portions of the game were something to be really be proud of," coach Roy Stanley said. "We created some things offensively and played good soccer."

Going into the second half, the Pack knew it would have to start pressuring on the offensive side of the field and they executed the game plan early on. The added pressure led to the equalizer on a shot from Matt Marchena (Fr., Littleton, Colo.). Marchena dribbled from the top of the box before finding an opening and sealing the deal with a nice, driven shot.

The Orediggers were not going to go away easy as they fought back late in the half to get the go ahead goal, and later an insurance goal.

Tesho Akindele was a pain the Pack's back all game as he assited on the first goal and finished with both the game-winner and also the final third goal. All-in-all Akindele finished with five points on four shots.

"The big thing for us is to keep our heads up, we're playing good soccer and we're looking forward to our game on Tuesday," coach Stanley said.

The Pack will return to action on Tuesday when they play rival UC-Colorado Springs. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. as the Silver and Steel Series renews between the two schools.
