Shutout streak reaches three games as Pack ties Mavericks

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 14, 2012) - If the CSU-Pueblo men's soccer team isn't tired, they may be now. The team played their third straight double overtime game Sunday, earning a 0-0 tie against a quality Colorado Mesa team.

The game was fairly even as both teams finished with 11 shots and three on target. The defense, led by Patrick Markis (Sr., Tempe, Ariz.) has been most impressive as they have not allowed a goal to be scored in 336 minutes dating back to the last score in a game against Colorado Mines.

"I can't think of a time when we've had three 0-0 draws in a row, it's unprecedented," coach Roy Stanley said. "It's a great credit to our team to pitch three shutouts, Patty's been a big part of that but it's also our defense and our team as a whole."

The feat truly is unprecedented for the Pack men's soccer team as it is the first time the team has gone through a stretch of three games, all of which have been 0-0 ties. It is also the longest shutout streak for the program in it's history.

Jonthan Hall (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska) led the way offensively, finishing the day with three shots. Trason Merritt (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska) was also a spark offensively as he finished with two shots.

"When we get into these tired, late games, when it's hard to have anybody fresh it's tough," Stanley said. "When you don't have your legs underneath you, against a tough keeper, it's required us to have a good finish. We've had guys battle and it's frustrating to not score a goal."

The Pack will finish off their longest road series of the season Friday when they travel to Alamosa, Colo. to take on Adams State. Kick off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m..
