Pack offense, Arel red hot in win.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 20, 2012) - If there was ever a night when everything went the Pack's way it happened Friday night. Behind hot shooting and double-digit point efforts from four ThunderWolves, the CSU-Pueblo men's basketball team was able to put in a dominating performance defeating Chadron State 82-57.
The Pack started red-hot hitting nine of their first ten shots. Ryan Arel (Jr., Shawnee, Kan.) was nearly impossible to stop behind the arc as he hit five first half 3-pointers. Andre Martin (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) and Bryse Velasquez (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) were just as dangerous missing only one shot a piece in the first half.
As a team the Pack shot 60 percent from the field while knocking down 11 3-pointers.
Arel scored a game-high 20 points while Velasquez and Martin each added 18 points. Ty Trahern (Sr., Kit Carson, Colo.) rounded out the double digit scoring finishing with 11 points.
Velasquez was just as valuable on the court finishing with a double-double that included 11 assists. The last time a ThunderWolf finished with a double-double using assists was 2003 when Alfred Sanchez accomplished the feat in a game against Chadron State.
The Pack used a tough zone defense to confuse the Eagles and force them into tough shots. Moala Tautuaa scored a team-high 13 points for Chadron State.
CSU-Pueblo will play Nebraska-Kearney Saturday night before departing on a three game road trip. Tip off against the Lopers is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
