ThunderWolves knock off Regis to improve to 8-7.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 14, 2012) - The CSU-Pueblo put in a beautiful, well-rounded basketball game Saturday night to defeat Regis 77-64. The Pack executed well on offense, played tough defense and made plays when they needed to, securing a victory over the Rangers.
The teams battled back and forth all night with neither team taking a lead bigger than 11 points for the majority of the game until the game fell out of reach in the final minute. A trapping defense helped the Pack cause turnovers in key situations to grind out the victory.
The Pack battled foul trouble all game but key hustle plays by Ty Trahern (Sr., Kit Carson, Colo.), Arden Dennis (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) and Andre Martin (Sr., San Diego, Colo.) were the difference in the tightly contested game.
Dennis caused several turnovers, finishing the game with six steals, a handful of which came on pure hustle plays to intercept Regis passes. He also added 13 points as the Pack's second leading scorer on the night.
Trahern was key in the victory while also making one of the better plays in the game as he created a turnover before tossing the ball over his shoulder as he fell out of bounds to a streaking Martin.
Martin finished with a game high 25 points in addition to securing five rebounds.
As a team, the Pack shot almost lights out. The team shot 54 percent from the field and 50 percent from the 3-point line as their marksmanship showed continually throughout the game.
Regis had a solid all-around team effort with four players finishing in double digits. The defense by the ThunderWolves caused problems for the Rangers as they struggled to get into their offensive sets with much time remaining on the shot clock.
The Pack will continue its home swing Friday night when they play host to Chadron State. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
