5th-ranked Metro State too much as they cruise past Pack

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 13, 2012) - The one thing the CSU-Pueblo men's basketball team might be known for this season is they don't back down to anybody. The Pack played the fifth-ranked team in the nation in Metro State, playing the Roadrunners close early on but falling 69-49.

The Pack played the top team in the conference tough, exploding out of the gates to take an early seven point lead. Andre Martin (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) provided the energy, scoring 13 of the Pack's 28 first half points.

CSU-Pueblo had no trouble executing in the early moments of the game, finding open cutters and knocking down open jumpers.

But as all good teams do, the Roadrunners took control of the game to gain an 11-point lead at the end of half.

Brandon Jefferson led Metro State in scoring finishing with 27 points and four rebounds. Jefferson was lethal for the Roadrunners hitting seven 3-pointers. Reggie Evans was also effective showing off his full arsenal scoring from all parts of the floor. Behind Evans the depth of the Roadrunners was enough to wear the Pack down.

The Pack struggled from the 3-point line hitting only one from beyond the arc the entire game. Ball security was also a positive for the ThunderWolves as they turned the ball over only 11 times.

The Roadrunners were also able to shut down the Pack's most effective player in the game, as they held Martin scoreless in the second half.

CSU-Pueblo gets a chance to split the weekend series when they play Regis Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
