Kinsey scores in 85' to seal victory for Pack
DENVER, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 25, 2011) - Things are good when the offense gets going and the saying proved right for the CSU-Pueblo men's soccer team who defeated Colorado Christian University 2-1 Sunday.
The Pack fell behind early after Matt Walberer was about to beat goalkeeper Jacob Blum (Sr., Peoria, Ariz.) in the 18'. Christopher Werre was able to find Walberer open as he buried the ball to take a quick 1-0 lead.
The ThunderWolves were able to counteract the goal just 12 minutes later as Rene Chacon (RFr., Pueblo, Colo.) scored his first career goal. Brandon Herre (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) worked through a slew of defenders before finding Chacon who also beat his man to bury the goal for a 1-1 tie.
The teams played back and forth throughout the second half but Robert Kinsey (Sr., Denver, Colo.)continued his great collegiate career by scoring the game-winner in the 86'. Denim Douglas was credited with the assist to Kinsey who scored his third goal of the season off of a header, inching closer and closer to becoming the all-time goal scorer and points leader in school history.
Kinsey is just three points away from tying the leader Craig Miller, with 81 points and three goals away from tying Miller in goals with 35.
Jonathan Hall (So., Anchorage, Alaska) also helped the offensive attack shooting seven shots at goalkeeper David Ilgenfritz. Dustin Geist (RSo., Durango, Colo.) along with Chacon both finished the game with three shots at the keeper.
"It was stressful at times but overall our guys remained confident and kept having faith in themselves," coach Roy Stanley said.
The Pack will stay on the road for two games when they visit Regis on Friday with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
