Pack offense explodes for 23 runs as it powers to playoffs.
DURANGO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - May 1, 2011) - Powered by a three-home run day by Lacey Chesser (So., Oxnard, Calif.), CSU-Pueblo did what it took to clinch a berth in the RMAC playoffs, overcoming a loss in the first game of a doubleheader to Fort Lewis Sunday to win the late game by a 23-4 score.
CSU-Pueblo was in extreme danger of falling out of the RMAC Tournament discussion, as a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Fort Lewis could've been the death blow to end their season. But after losing the opener 14-4, the ThunderWolves came back to annihilate Fort Lewis in the late game.
The Pack hit a total of six home runs in the second game, including two each by Chesser and Dannielle Oliva (So., Pueblo, Colo.), who went 3-for-4 with six RBI. Chesser ran her overall total of the day to three when combined with a bomb in the first game.
Chesser's two home runs were the most remarkable, as she hit both during a 13-run fourth inning, becoming the first ThunderWolf to hit two home runs in a single inning.
CSU-Pueblo ends the regular season in seventh place in the RMAC standings. CSU-Pueblo will face RMAC Western Division champion, Western New Mexico, in the opening game of the RMAC Tournament on Thursday, May 5 at 12:30 p.m. in Golden, Colo.
