Pack splits with rival UCCS

Seventh-inning heroics define doubleheader.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Apr. 8, 2011) - Late rallies provided the tipping point in both games Friday between CSU-Pueblo and UC-Colorado Springs, as UCCS won the first game in dramatic fashion, 3-2, before the Pack used a raucous rally to claim a 5-2 win in the late game.

The Pack's bid for extra innings in the first game were squashed when Erin Milburn smashed a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh inning, walking off the ThunderWolves.  It undid a great game in the circle for Shannon Traxinger (Jr., Longmont, Colo.), who allowed just five hits prior to the home run.  But the long ball is what got her as she gave up two home runs on the day.

But the Pack got its revenge in the late game, Turning a 2-0 UCCS lead straight on its ear, packing on five runs in the top of the seventh inning to storm to victory.

The fun got started when Olivia Fimbres (Fr., Fontana, Calif.) broke up a two-hitter with a solo home run to lead off the inning.  Despite two of the next five batters striking out, the ThunderWolves would load the bases and then drive them in, using two singles to plate four more runs and take the final 5-2 lead.

The Pack will try to build upon the split Saturday when it takes on Chadron State in neutral territory in Colorado Springs.
