ThunderWolves split series with RMAC opponent for the third time this season.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 20, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo relied on a late comeback Sunday in the final game of a doubleheader with Regis, claiming a 4-2 win on the heels of a 3-2 loss to the Rangers.
CSU-Pueblo was close to stringing together two successful rallies, nearly closing up a 3-0 Regis lead in the bottom of the 7th inning of the first game.
The big swing came when Sarah Bosshart (Jr., Irvine, Calif.) hit a two-run home run with one out in the 7th inning, cutting Regis' lead to 3-2. The ThunderWolves were able to get another runner on base in the person of a walk to pinch-hitter Marissa Cates (Fr., Murrieta, Calif.) but couldn't push along any more runs, falling 3-2.
In the second game, the Pack finally got their rally off the ground and took the lead for good, riding a four-run sixth inning to a 4-2 win.
The Pack knocked Regis starter Nikki Haberkorn out of the game in sixth, as she was yanked when Regis held a 2-0 lead with runners on first and third with one out. Ranger ace Bianca Holley headed to the circle after having stymied the Pack for two wins already this weekend.
But unlike the games she started, Holley was lit up, giving up four hits and the lead for good when Samantha Rios (So., Fullerton, Calif.) smashed a two-run triple to centerfield.
With the split, CSU-Pueblo weighs in 8-13 and a 7-9 record in conference play. CSU-Pueblo will take to the road next week, travelling to Western New Mexico for a four-game set with the Mustangs.
