Pack earns one 'W' at Metro, but drops series

DENVER, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 13, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo salvaged one game of its four-game set with Metro State this weekend, splitting Sunday's doubleheader with the Roadrunners, losing 3-2 in extra innings before claiming a 7-6 win.

In the first game Sunday, both teams missed ample opportunities to score, but the ThunderWolves made a habit out of it, stranding 14 baserunners throughout the close game.  The Pack led 2-0 after 5-1/2 innings, but Metro State tied it 2-2 in the 5th.

CSU-Pueblo then went on to strand six runners on base over the next three innings, and left the bases loaded in the 6th inning without a runner finding their way home.  Those missed opportunities allowed Metro State to win it on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 8th inning.

In the second game, it was the ThunderWolves that brought the big sticks, recording 14 hits and blasting two home runs and a total of six extra base hits in the 7-6 win.  Leadoff hitter Carlie Lucas (Jr., Granada Hills, Calif.) went off, going 3-for-4 with one of the Pack home runs, scoring three runs.

CSU-Pueblo, now 6-11 and 5-7 in RMAC play, will return home next weekend when the Pack hosts Regis at the Rawlings Softball Complex.
