Second-half slump sinks ThunderWolves

Pack falls short in overtime to hot-shooting Mountain Lions.

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 5, 2011) - After a very successful first half, CSU-Pueblo couldn't close the deal Saturday in a pivotal game vs. UC-Colorado Springs, fumbling away key possessions and facing a hot-shooting team in an 89-87 overtime loss.

The ThunderWolves were humming along in the first half, shooting 56.5 percent and taking a 36-28 lead into the break.

But UCCS made key stops and went on a 12-2 run to start the second half, and taking a 48-44 lead.  Despite never opening up a lead of more than five points, CSU-Pueblo simply couldn't close the gap, as UCCS shot 60.9 percent in the second half.

The Pack would come close, taking the lead and getting themselves in position to win, holding a one-point lead, 73-72, with 1:41 remaining.  But two missed shots down the stretch kept the Pack from claiming the win and sending the game to overtime.

In the extra frame, UCCS opened it up with a three-point play by leading scorer, Brent Jones, and 10 free-throw makes, sealing their win.

CSU-Pueblo will look to bounce back from this loss on the road next week when it takes on Adams State and Fort Lewis.
