ThunderWolves grab another split with Adams

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 27, 2011) - In a near carbon copy of Saturday's doubleheader, CSU-Pueblo overcame a ho-hum performance in the first game of the doubleheader to eight-run the Grizzlies, losing 10-6 in the first game before winning 9-1 in six innings in the nightcap.

The highlight of the day was certainly the performance in the circle by Shannon Traxinger (Jr., Longmont, Colo.), who claimed her second win of the season in another great performance, pitching six innings of two-hit ball, allowing just one unearned run and striking out three.

She was able to relax, though, as the Pack bats came out firing, jumping out to a 5-0 lead after two innings.  All told, the Pack uncorked 13 hits in the win, and also benefitted from four Adams State errors, allowing the mercy rule to take over.

The Pack was led offensively Sunday by Marissa Reyes (Fr., Santa Paula, Calif.), the Pack's starter in the first game, who was stellar at the plate, going a combined 5-for-8 with four RBI.  Leadoff hitter Marissa Cates (Fr., Murietta, Calif.) also had a strong afternoon, going a combined 5-for-8 with three runs scored and two RBI.

CSU-Pueblo, now at 3-6 and 2-2 in RMAC play, will host Nebraska-Kearney at the Rawlings Softball Complex next weekend.
