Hot shooting dooms Pack against Mountain Lions

UCCS' 14-for-27 game shooting threes buries ThunderWolves.

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Dec. 31, 2011) - Rivalry games are always tough and the CSU-Pueblo men's basketball team learned that first hand Saturday.

The Pack wasn't able to match the hot shooting from the Mountain Lions as they were defeated 85-84.

CSU-Pueblo had a chance to win on the final possession, but a three-point attempt by Bryse Velasquez (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) bounced free as the Pack fell to defeat.

The Mountain Lions benefitted from shooting just over 51 percent from beyond the arc and 54 percent overall. Five players from UCCS scored in double digits, led by George Pollard who finished with 20 points and going 6-for-10 from the 3-point line.

Neither team was able to pull away from each other in a back-and-forth game that saw multiple lead changes.  CSU-Pueblo fell behind by as much as 10 late in the fourth quarter, but mounted a comeback that included a 15-6 run by the ThunderWolves, but the Pack couldn't get any closer than the final one-point deficit.

Andre Martin (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) scored a game-high 21 points and six rebounds with teammate Ty Trahern (Sr., Kit Carson, Colo.) right behind him finishing with 20 points.

The Pack as a team shot well but they weren't able to match the hot shooting displayed by the Mountain Lions.

CSU-Pueblo will finish 2011 with a 6-5 overall record and a 3-4 record in the RMAC. The team will open up 2012 with a pair of road games beginning Friday at Colorado Mesa. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
