Rebounding woes doom Pack at Fort Lewis

Pack musters only four second-chance points, keeps Fort Lewis' home winning streak alive.

DURANGO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Dec. 3, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo suffered its second straight loss Saturday, curing a turnover bug from a night ago but failing to take advantage of second chances around the basket in a 66-55 loss to Fort Lewis.

Fort Lewis was able to pound the offensive glass, out-boarding the Pack offensively 16-11, but taking full advantage of those second chances, which proved to be a main reason the ThunderWolves weren't victorious.  The Skyhawks outscored CSU-Pueblo 20-4 on second-chance buckets, out-rebounding the ThunderWolves 43-32 on the night.

In a game the ThunderWolves never led, Fort Lewis jumped 21-7 lead to open the game.  CSU-Pueblo did close that gap, going on a 14-4 run to pull within 25-21, but Fort Lewis stretched the game again, mounting a 31-23 going into halftime that it was able to maintain throughout the rest of the game.

One big positive was the Pack's ball-handling ability, which rebounded from a 29-turnover game Friday against Adams State to turning the ball over just 10 times Saturday.

The ThunderWolves did get another big night from Arden Dennis (Jr., Aurora, Colo.), who led all scorers with 18 points, as well as Ty Trahern (Sr., Kit Carson, Colo.), who was two away from a career-high with 16 points, adding eight rebounds and four steals, as well.  Bryse Velasquez (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) narrowly missed out on a double-double with nine points and eight assists.

CSU-Pueblo, now 3-3 and 0-2 in RMAC play, will continue to be road warriors next weekend when it travels to Colorado Christian and nationally-ranked Colorado School of Mines.
