Blum breaks shutout record over the weekend
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 9, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo used a strong team effort to surpass the Colorado Christian Sunday afternoon defeating the Cougars 1-0.
The Pack started slow but eventually settled down and gained possession in the offensive side of the field. The team fired off a total of 19 shots in the game while holding the Cougars to seven shots.
The Pack finally got on the board in the 44' off a corner kick from Brandon Herre (So, Colorado Springs, Colo.). Herre sent in a beautiful ball that found the head of Aaron Presnell (So., Cortez, Colo.) who sent a bouncing ball pass the outstretched arms of keeper David Ilgenfritz.
The goal was all the Pack needed to get past the Cougars who have struggled this season.
A potential insurance goal by Patrick Farris-Hilaire (So., Denver, Colo.) was called back due to an offside call after a nice pass from Jonny Sawyer (Fr., Aurora, Colo.).
Jacob Blum (Sr., Peoria, Ariz.) had another stellar day in net making one save and finishing with his fourth shutout of the season.
Blum also broke a record over the weekend for the most minutes without allowing a goal going 314:06 to beat out the record set by Paul Christakis in 1999.
The Pack will travel to play UC-Colorado Springs wednesday in the second leg of the Silver and Steel Series. The game is set to kick off at 7:30.
