Huge crowd can't lift Pack.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 29, 2011) - Not even the largest crowd to watch a basketball game at Massari Arena since 1997 could lift the ThunderWolves Saturday night as CSU-Pueblo never led in a blowout win for visiting Western New Mexico, 84-66.
The Pack started out in a monumental hole, trailing 17-4 to open the game and never recovered. The closest the Pack would come after that is 26-22 midway through the first half, but that margin quickly turned the Mustangs' way as they uncorked a 10-2 run that effectively buried the ThunderWolves the rest of the way.
Daniel Pierce (Sr., Edgewood, N.M.) was able to record a double-double in the game, scoring 12 points and going for 13 boards, sinking a pair of three-pointers. Point guard Nathan Tigner (So., Fort Worth, Tex.) turned in his best collegiate scoring day, going for 16 points.
The crowd of 3,451 in attendance was the largest to watch a CSU-Pueblo men's basketball game since 1997.
CSU-Pueblo will get an eight-day break before returning to the hardwood next Saturday night when it hosts UC-Colorado Springs at Massari Arena.
