Pack snatches victory in close matchup with Chadron

Game-ending steal seals win for Pack.

CHADRON, Neb. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 21, 2011) - Though it was hardly an exhibition of textbook basketball, CSU-Pueblo was the beneficiary of a sloppy ending Friday, as poor ball handling and untimely fouls helped the Pack grab a 59-57 win.

It was the ThunderWolves' first Friday-night win this season and lifts the Pack to 8-8 on the season and 5-7 in RMAC play.

CSU-Pueblo was in control late, leading 57-53 with nearly two minutes remaining, but a pair of fouls late helped Chadron State to tie the game at 57 with 58 seconds remaining.
But inside of the final minute, each team took turns giving the other a chance to pull it out, but neither took the bait.

Chadron State committed two fouls inside of the final minute, both on the CSU-Pueblo end of the floor, and the Pack was able to go 2-for-4 with those final shots to take a 59-57 lead with 34 seconds left.

Appropriately, defense determined the outcome for the Pack, as Nathan Tigner (So., Fort Worth, Tex.) grabbed a steal in the final second as the Eagles were going for the tie, tilting the game for the ThunderWolves.

Kris Lawrie (Sr., Gardena, Calif.) was the Pack's leading scorer, going for 17 points while Andre Martin (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) added 13 points.

CSU-Pueblo will now travel to Nebraska-Kearney Saturday night where it will try to claim its first RMAC weekend sweep of the season.
