Game 1: Regis 5, CSU-Pueblo 4
Game 2: CSU-Pueblo 6, Regis 5
DENVER - CSU-Pueblo started its 2010 season Saturday by
splitting a doubleheader at Regis, losing the first leg 5-4 before
claiming the nightcap by a 6-5 score.
The ThunderWolves got strong play from its seniors as catcher
Bo
Nuanez (Sr., Lafayette, Colo.) and Kelly Purcell (Sr.,
Las Vegas, Nev.) led the Pack at the plate, going 4-for-6
and 3-for-7, respectively.
Nuanez went 3-for-3 in the opener, including a pair of doubles,
but it wasn't enough to stop a Regis offense that accounted for 11
hits, three of which coming in the bottom of the sixth inning, the
Pack was the victim of a Regis rally that netted two runs for the
Rangers in the inning, upsetting the Pack's then 4-3 lead.
Regis nearly pulled another rally out of its hat in the late
game as a four-run 7th inning nearly undid the Pack's 6-1
lead.
With two runners on and none out, the Pack cut down Regis' lead
runner at third on a fielders choice, leaving runners on first and
second with one out. Pitcher Justine Bosio (So.,
Santa Barbara, Calif.), who pitched a masterpiece before
the 7th inning, dug deep to produce two plays of little
consequence, getting a popout to shortstop Samantha Rios (Fr.,
Fullerton, Calif.) and then a lineout again to Rios to
halt the rally and seal the win.
After having worked out the new season's cobwebs Saturday, the
Pack will focus on the Regional Cross Over and
Nebraska-Kearney next weekend, when the ThunderWolves will face
five reputable foes from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference, the sister-conference in the Central Region to the
RMAC, on Feb. 20 and 21.
