Pack drop second straight in loss to Mavericks

Late surge comes up short against Mavericks

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 17, 2010) - The CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves were defeated by 2-1 Sunday by the Mesa State Mavericks. Their first time losing back-to-back games since dropping the first three games of the season, which were also road games.

Danny Molineaux got things started just ten minutes into the game with a goal that he received on a cross from Nathan Poirier. The Mavericks would add to their lead in the 38th minute with a series of passes that eventually ended up on the foot Stan Schrock who beat goalkeeper Jacob Blum (Jr., Peoria, Ariz.) for a 2-0 Mesa State lead.

The Pack would cut into the Mavericks lead in the 60th minute when leading scorer Robert Kinsey (Jr., Denver, Colo.) scored off a rebound that hit the crossbar initially. The Pack had a late furry but came up short on their attempt to tie.

"We played well the whole 45 minutes in the second half, but unfortunately we started the game slow," coach Roy Stanley said.

The loss drops the ThunderWolves to 7-8 overall and 6-5 in RMAC play. The Pack return home for their last three games of the season and get a chance for redemption Sunday when they play host to Fort Lewis. The game is scheduled for 12 p.m. with the women's soccer team hosting Mesa State in their final home game of the year.

"We just don't have the consistency in the way we play, 11 guys working together and having that awareness and energy level we need for 90 minutes," Stanley said. "We don't feel like the season is over yet so we can continue to improve in those areas."
