CSU-Pueblo 75, Western State 58
CSU-Pueblo senior Marc Williams (Sr.,
Seattle, Wash.) sank five threes and netted 25 points
as CSU-Pueblo scored a 75-58 win over Western State Friday.
Williams turned in an 8-for-13 effort, sinking five of the
Pack's nine treys as the ThunderWolves relied on a second half
surge to sink the Mountaineers.
CSU-Pueblo held a 38-34 lead at the break, ending a first half
in which Western State was shooting well and led for a four-minute
stretch. But CSU-Pueblo, trailing 23-19 at the 8:49 mark,
went on a 9-2 run, thanks to a three by Williams and a pair of
jumpers from Chris Busch (Sr.,
Oakland, Calif.) to take a 28-25 lead. The Pack then
tacked on another nine points, an 18-4 run in all, as CSU-Pueblo
established its first double-digit edge of the night, 37-27, and
never looked back.
The Pack opened the second frame strong, starting with a 10-2
run that put CSU-Pueblo up 49-36 at the 14:24 mark. The
ThunderWolves didn't waver after that, holding a double-digit lead
for the remainder of the game.
The Pack cashed in strong performances from Dwayne Wright (Sr.,
Seattle, Wash.), who recorded a career-high six assists
and seven points, while Busch went for 13 points and eight
boards. Roman Van Allen
(Sr., Los Angeles, Calif.) turned in four assists and four
steals.
CSU-Pueblo, now 10-5 and 5-3 in RMAC play, will face perhaps
their greatest test of the season Saturday when it hosts
17th-ranked Mesa State at Massari Arena.
