CSU-Pueblo 4, Newman (Kan.) 0
WICHITA, Kan. - Sporting a wildly consistent attack on both
sides of the ball, the ThunderWolves cruised to their second
straight shutout with a 4-0 win over Newman Sunday.
The ThunderWolves established dominance over the Jets,
outshooting Newman 13 to 8 and netting two goals in each half.
Corey
Cullen (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) netted the first
goal, the game-winner, in the 16th minute during the first
half. Nine minutes later, Robert Kinsey (So.,
Denver, Colo.) added his second goal of the season to give
the Pack a 2-0 lead.
After an own goal by Newman gave the Pack a 3-0 lead,
Brenden Hughes (Fr., Fort Collins, Colo.) scored
his first collegiate goal to give the ThunderWolves their second
straight 4-0 win.
Chris
Smith (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Jacob Blum (So.,
Peoria, Ariz.) recorded their second consecutive combined
shutout, as Smith manned goal for 83 minutes. Both keepers
benefitted from a second straight amazing game by the Pack
backfield of Johnny Valenzuela
(Sr., Las Cruces, N.M.), Dillon Good (Jr.,
Albuquerque, N.M.), Austin Forakis (Sr.,
West Jordan, Utah), and Steve Choman (Sr.,
Sparks, Nev.), which only allowed two shots to land on
goal.
"It was good to see us take care of business in a disciplined
way," Pack coach Roy Stanley. "Our offense handled its
opportunities well and were creative in their chances, and our
defensive backfield were superb. It's very exciting to watch
our guys excel in the new system we've implemented this year."
The Pack will travel to Montana next weekend to take on Montana
State-Billings Friday before facing the University of Mary on a
neutral field in Billings.
