Pack downs third-seeded Mines at regionals

CSU-Pueblo 7, Colorado Mines 1

The #6 CSU-Pueblo Softball team extended their season another day with a 7-1 victory over the #3 Colorado Mines in day one of the NCAA Central Region Tournament Friday at the Regis Softball Field in Denver, Colorado.

Timely hitting for the Pack was the key in the victory as Ashley Aldrich (Sr., Sahuarita, Ariz.) went 3-for-3 and a run scored to lead the Pack.  Bo Nuanez (Jr., Lafayette, Colo.) and Kayla Dionese (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) each drove in two runs to help solidfy the somewhat surprising victory.

Amber Higby (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) pitched one of the best games of the year as she improved to 13-7 on the season, allowing just one run on nine hits and did not surrender a walk to the Orediggers.

With the win the T-Wolves advance in the winner's bracket and will play again Saturday against the Mesa State Mavericks, ranked #10 in the Central Region.  The Mavs are coming off a big win against tournament-host, #2 in the region, Metro State.  First pitch is scheduled for 12 pm at the Regis Softball field in Denver, Colorado.
