Game 2:
CSU-Pueblo 5, Fort Lewis 2 - 8 innings
The CSU-Pueblo softball team returned to their winning ways
with a sweep of the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis on Saturday in Durango,
Colorado. The T-Wolves took game one 3-2 and battled the
Skyhawks to a come from behind victory in game two, winning 5-2 in
8 innings.
In game one, Fort Lewis took a 2-1 lead by the top of the 3rd
inning and it remained that way and turned out to be somewhat of a
pitcher's dual as Amber Higby
(Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) pitched another complete
game, walking only one and striking out three, to pick up her 10th
win of the season. The last frame turned out to be the
difference in the game when Justine Bosio
(Fr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) had a two-out 2 RBI
single to give the Pack the lead and Higby pitching a 1-2-3 bottom
of the 7th to seal the victory.
Game two took just a bit longer for the ThunderWolves to put
away the Skyhawks. The difference once again came in the top
half of the 8th inning when leadoff hitter Janine Tyler
(Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) singled up the middle which
was followed by a RBI double from Kelly Purcell
(Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) giving the Pack the
one-run lead. A few batters later Bo Nuanez
(Jr., Lafayette, Colo.) connected on a homerun,
her fourth of the year, giving the T-Wolves the extra-inning
victory. Kelsey
Swanberg (Sr., Arvada, Colo.) pitched
eight strong innings, striking out two, to improve her overall
record to 6-4.
With the two wins the ThunderWolves improved to 22-12 (16-8
RMAC) and will look for the series sweep when they take on Fort
Lewis on Saturday with another doubleheader, first pitch is
scheduled for 11 am.
