CSU-Pueblo 5, UC-Colorado Springs 3
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The ThunderWolves earned a win in the
final match of the 2009 campaign Sunday as sophomore Robert Kinsey
(So., Denver, Colo.) turned in a hat trick in a 5-3
win over UC-Colorado Springs.
In the recently-scheduled game, which took place on the
same day as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference
Tournament, for which both CSU-Pueblo and UCCS did not
qualify, both teams fielded teams without seniors, as both squads
officially bid their departing seniors adieu last weekend.
The game, which will be official in 2009's results, essentially
gave both teams a chance to scout their younger players in a game
situation.
Kinsey, the two-time all-RMAC selection and 2008 Freshman of the
Year, used the match to smoke untested competition, netting his
second hat trick of his career. The Pack forward raised his
2009 goal total to eight in the win, adding an assist as
well. His goals opened up a game that was knotted 1-1 at
halftime.
Another 2009 all-RMAC recipient, Brenden Hughes (Fr.,
Fort Collins, Colo.) also netted his eighth goal of the
season when he found the back of the net for the Pack's first goal
in the first half.
The win in the non-conference tilt raises CSU-Pueblo's final
2009 mark to 9-11.
