GUNNISON, Colo. - Facing perhaps their stiffest competition of
the season, CSU-Pueblo showed promise but was on the losing end of
three duals at the Tracy Borah Duals at Western State College
Saturday.
Facing two Division-I opponents in the United States Air Force
Academy and Utah Valley State, and a Division-II top-20 in Findlay
(OH) University, the ThunderWolves held strong against their tough
opponents.
Against Air Force and Findlay, CSU-Pueblo was within shooting
distance for a win with two matches to go. The Pack was led
by three wrestlers who went 2-1 on the day - 149-pounder
Louie DeSantis (Jr., Escondido, Calif.),
141-pounder Markus Portillos (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.),
and 174-pounder Justin Grant (Jr., Winnemucca,
Nev.).
Keenen Funk (Jr., Riverton, Wyo.), the Pack's
157-pounder, also went 1-1, including a pin of Air Force's Joseph
Stafford just 41 seconds into their match for his team-leading
fifth pin of the season.
CSU-Pueblo will return to its RMAC dual schedule when it hosts
No. 6 Western State Thursday night at Massari Arena.
