KEARNEY, Neb. - The ThunderWolves hope that their 2008-09 season
is their first step toward earning a national championship in the
near future. But after taking on Nebraska-Kearney, the 2008
national champions, the ThunderWolves found out they have a long
way to go.
The Lopers exterted dominance in nearly every match, scoring a
46-0 win over the ThunderWolves.
Kearney logged three pins, two technical falls and three major
decisions against the Pack. The ThunderWolves' only real shot
at victory came in the 149-pound match between Louis
DeSantis (Jr., Escondido, Calif.) and Islam Abitov, as the
two were deadlocked going into the third period. The margin
of victory, a 3-2 win for Abitov, was accomplished when Abitov
opted for the down position at the beginning of the period, and got
a one-point escape five seconds into the period.
The loss drops the Pack to 0-4 in RMAC duals and 2-6 overall
this season. The ThunderWolves will return to the mat on Jan.
24 when they travel to the Tracy Borah Duals at Western State
College in Gunnison, Neb., where they will have duals with the
Air Force Academy, Findlay (OH) and Utah Valley State.
