Both XC teams, six individuals honored as USTFCCCA All-Academic

USTFCCCA INDIVIDUAL RELEASE

NEW ORLEANS, Colo. (February 16, 2018) - Both the Colorado State University-Pueblo cross country programs gathered NCAA DII Cross Country Team All-Academic Awards from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, while six members of the squads were recognized as NCAA DII Individual All-Academic.

The individual All-Academic honor was awarded to those athletes who have compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and finished among the top 30 percent of eligible runners at his or her regional championships and/or the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.

The men's team compiled a 3.60 GPA, while the women posted a 3.69 GPA.

Named All-Academic for the men were Alec Choury (Jr., Westminster, Colo.), Marcelo Laguera (Jr., Chihuahua, Mexico), Paul Roberts (So., Boulder, Colo.) and Ben Vaughan (Sr., Great Falls, Mont.).

Gillian Maness (So., Kalispell, Mont.) and Miriam Roberts (Sr., Boulder, Colo.) gathered the award for the women.

Named All-American after clocking a time of 31:46.5 in the 10K NCAA Division II National Championships to post a 28th place finish ... Was 30th at the 10K regional race after crossing the finish line in 32:07.52 ... All-RMAC First Team after finishing 11th at the RMAC Championships (8K - 25:40.5) ... Finished 14th at the 32nd Annual Rocky Mountain Shootout with an 8K time of 26:54.1 to help the ThunderWolves win their division ... Has competed in three races entering the RMAC Championships. 

Laguera 

3.40 GPA in Civil Engineering Technology ... USTFCCCA All-Academic ... Academic All-RMAC First Team

Named All-American after finishing the 10K NCAA Division II National Championships in 23rd with a time of 31:36.9 ... All-Region after a third-place finish in the 10K race with a time of 30:40.26 ... All-RMAC First Team after finishing third and leading the ThunderWolves to fourth at the RMAC Championships (8K - 25:15.3) ... At the Colorado College Invite, crossed the finish line in 25:10.00 to finish first in the 8K race and guide the ThunderWolves to second ... Finished third twice and was 13th at the Stegemoller Classic National Preview entering the RMAC Championships.

Maness

3.85, Psychology/Spanish ... USTFCCCA All-Academic ... Academic All-RMAC Honor Roll

Recognized as All-Region after she posted a 6K time of 21:57.52 to finish 19th at the South Central Region Championships ... All-RMAC Second Team after finishing 16th at the RMAC Championships (6K - 22:35.3) ... Maness has been the team's No. 2 all season with three top 10 (12th in her other race) performances ... Finished sixth at the Stegemoller Classic National Preview with a 5K time of 18:07.6 ... Was seventh in the non-Division I group at the 32nd Annual Rocky Mountain Shootout to help guide the ThunderWolves to first.

M. Roberts

3.55 GPA in General Exercise Science ... USTFCCCA All-Academic ... Academic All-RMAC First Team

National Qualifier ... Ran the 6K regional race in 21:32.71 to finish fifth and automatically qualify for her third appearance at the NCAA Division II National Championships ... Named All-Region ... All-RMAC First Team after leading the ThunderWolves at the RMAC Championships (6K - 22:19.8) ... Two-time RMAC Runner of the Week winner this season ... Finished top six in all four events leading up to the RMAC Championships, which included a meet victory at the 26th Annual Colorado College Invite, as she ran the 6K course in 22:29.5 ... Fifth at the Stegemoller Classic National Preview.

P. Roberts 

3.87 GPA in Civil Engineering Technology ... USTFCCCA All-Academic ... Academic All-RMAC First Team

Named All-American, as he was 35th at the NCAA Division II National Championships, as he crossed the finish line in the 10K race in 31:49.4 ... Earned All-Region honors after he finished the 10K race in 11th with a time of 31:18.68 ... All-RMAC First Team after finishing seventh and helping the Pack to fourth at the RMAC Championships (8K - 25:28.3) ... Named RMAC Runner of the Week Sept. 20 after a fourth place finish at the Stegmoller Classic National Preview ... Has finished in the top four in each of his four races leading into the RMAC Championships, which included first place among non-Division I competition at the Colorado State Duals (Sept. 1).

Vaughan

3.45, EXHPR (General Exercise Science) and Biology ... USTFCCCA All-Academic ... Academic All-RMAC Honor Roll

Was the fourth scoring member for the ThunderWolves at the national championships (Pack finished 7th) and regional meet (CSU-Pueblo was 5th) ... He ran the 10K nationals course in 33:27.9 to finish 137th ... Posted a time of 33:02.56 to finish 55th at the regional championships ... Finished 48th at the RMAC Championships with a time of 27:02.9 ... Helped the ThunderWovles win the non-Division I race at the Rocky Mountain Shootout, as he finished in 27:21 for 36th ... Was 46th (26:12) at the Stegmoller Classic National Preview where the Pack placed fifth.

THUNDERWOLVES IN 2017

The CSU-Pueblo men's cross country team recorded its second straight top 10 performance at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, as the ThunderWolves were seventh to tie for the second best finish in program history. The seventh-place finish tied with the 1978 team and was second only to the 1966 squad that was fifth. The Pack moved up eight spots from their national ranking of No. 15 in the pre-championships poll.

Three members of the ThunderWolves were named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Americans, as Marcelo Laguera (Chihuahua, Mexico), Alec Choury (Westminster, Colo.) and Paul Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) all finished in the top 40. 

The women finished 11th at the regional meet and seventh at the RMAC Championships. Senior Miriam Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) was fifth at the regional championships to earn all-region recognition and automatically qualify for the national championships as an individual. Sophomore Gillian Maness (Kalispell, Mont.) was 19th at the regional meet to earn all-region honors.
