BOULDER, Colo. (September 29, 2017) - After a week off, the Colorado State University-Pueblo cross country programs are back in action Saturday at the Rocky Mountain Shootout in Boulder and hosted by University of Colorado.
The men's 5K race begins at 9 a.m., while the men's 8K race will follow at 9:45 a.m. at the Buffalo Ranch Cross Country Course.
The Pack men were ranked No. 13 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national poll. The men were No. 3 in the region poll, while the women were No. 7. The shootout has two categories for team scoring. The NCAA Division I opponents are scored against each other, while the non-Division I opponents are scored as one, resulting in two team champions per gender. There is only one individual winner per gender.
Following the Stegmoller Classic National Preview in Evansville, Indiana, the ThunderWolves swept the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Runner of the Week honors, as senior Miriam Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) and sophomore Paul Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) were each honored.
M. Roberts paced the Pack, as she was fifth in the field of 146 athletes and ran the 5K in 18:01. The senior was fourth among NCAA Division II athletes and recorded a mile pace of 5:49. The ThunderWolves were ninth of 15 teams with a time of 1:36:46.
P. Roberts turned in a fourth place finish. He ran the 8K race in 24:35 and was just 10 seconds off of second. He averaged 4:57 per mile to help guide the ThunderWolves to fifth of 15 teams, which included besting four NCAA Division I programs. The Pack scored 124 points, as the second place and fifth place teams were separated by just 15 points.
