COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 20, 2017) - Siblings Miriam Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) and Paul Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) of the Colorado State University-Pueblo cross country programs have earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Runner of the Week honors, announced by the league office Wednesday.
For Miriam, the award is the second of the season for the senior, while it marks the first honor of Paul's young career (sophomore). Miriam was also named RMAC Runner of the Week Sept. 6.
M. Roberts paced the Pack at the Stegmoller Classic National Preview Saturday in Evansville, Indiana. She was fifth in the field of 146 athletes and ran the 5K in 18:01. The senior was fourth among NCAA Division II athletes and recorded a mile pace of 5:49. The ThunderWolves were ninth of 15 teams with a time of 1:36:46.
P. Roberts turned in a fourth place finish at the Stegmoller Classic National Preview. He ran the 8K race in 24:35 and was just 10 seconds off of second. He averaged 4:57 per mile to help guide the ThunderWolves to fifth of 15 teams, which included besting four NCAA Division I programs. The Pack scored 124 points, as the second place and fifth place teams were separated by just 15 points.
A new U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national poll was released Wednesday and placed the Pack men at No. 12, a three spot dip from last week. In the regional polls, the men remained No. 3 in the South Central Region, while the women also stayed put at No. 7.
Both teams will rest this weekend before heading to Boulder, Colorado Sept. 30 for the Rocky Mountain Shootout. The race will take place at Buffalo Ranch, South Campus, University of Colorado Boulder. The women's 5.8K begins at 9 a.m., while the men's 8K will follow at 9:45 a.m.
