PUEBLO, Colo. (September 30, 2016) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo cross country teams are set to run at the 28th Annual Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Oct. 1. The Division I meet features a record 65 programs from 17 states.
The men's 8K race is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. MT, while the women's race is set for 9:20 a.m. MT. The event is hosted by University of Arkansas, who ranks No. 5 nationally on the men's side and No. 10 on the women's side.
The Pack men are ranked No. 11 nationally and are coming off a meet victory at the Montana State University/Bozeman Running Company Invitational, Sept. 17. The ThunderWolves bested eight NCAA Division I teams and 12 other programs overall.
Junior Derrick Williams (Columbia Falls, Mont.) won the 5-mile event in 24:30.5 and earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Runner of the Week.
Right behind Williams for second was sophomore Marcelo Laguera (Chihuahua, Mexico), as he recorded a mark of 24.32.2. Freshman Paul Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) crossed the finish line in 24:41.2 to place fifth.
The CSU-Pueblo women were sixth overall in a field with nine NCAA Division I teams at the MSU Invite, four of which they beat. In the college division, the Pack was first of five squads.
Guiding the ThunderWolves for the second straight week was junior Miriam Roberts (Boulder, Colo.). She ran the 3-mile race in 17:18.0 to finish 15th overall and first among the college division runners. Senior Bailey Hughes (Bigfork, Mont.) posted a 17:25.7 to finish 21st.
