COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (August 23, 2016) - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its preseason all-conference teams and preseason coaches' poll, Tuesday, and in the process tabbed the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's cross country team fourth and the women's program fifth, while recognizing two student-athletes from each squad.
From the men's team, returning All-Americans Derrick Williams (Jr., Columbia Falls, Mont.) and Marcelo Laguera (So., Chihuahua, Mexico) were recognized as Preseason All-RMAC. The men gathered 145 points in the preseason poll to sit fourth out of 15 squads.
On the women's side, returning national qualifiers Bailey Hughes (Sr., Bigfork, Mont.) and Miriam Roberts (Jr., Boulder, Colo.) were honored as Preseason All-RMAC. The ThunderWolves totaled 139 points in the preseason poll, voted upon by the league's coaches, to sit fifth of 15 teams.
The RMAC swept the NCAA Championships in 2015, as the Colorado School of Mines men won and the Adams State University women captured the national championship. The Colorado Mines men were pegged to finish first in the 2016 preseason conference list, while the ASU women were also picked to finish atop the RMAC.
Adams State's Sydney Gidabuday and Western State Colorado University's Georgia Porter were named the 2016 RMAC Preseason Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Year.
The ThunderWolves begin the 2016 campain Sept. 2 at the Border Classic in Johnson, Kansas. The RMAC Championships are scheduled for Oct. 22 in Spearfish, South Dakota.
