CANYON, Texas (November 7, 2015) – A total of four members of the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's cross country teams will be competing in the NCAA Championships after finishing in the top 13 of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships Saturday.
The ThunderWolves women finished sixth of 23 teams at the championships with a team score of 221 points and an average time of 22:45.98 in the 6K race. The men were 10th of 23 teams in their first regional race since restarting the program last year. In the 10K race, the Pack totaled 235 points and averaged 31:49.90.
The meet, hosted by West Texas A&M University, was ran at "The Range" on the WT campus.
Sophomore Miriam Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) knocked off nearly a minute of her personal best time in a 6K and finished seventh with a time of 21:27.60. Junior Bailey Hughes (Bigfork, Mont.) crossed the finish line at 21:50.90, which was also a personal record. Both earned All-Region and will advance as individuals to the NCAA Division II Championships, Nov. 21 in Joplin, Missouri.
Sophomore Derrick Williams (Columbia Falls, Mont.) and freshman Marcelo Laguera (Chihuahua, Mexico) finished 10th and 11th, respectfully. Williams crossed the line of the 10K with a time of 30:33.30, while Laguera's time was 30:35.10. Both were honored as All-Region and will move on to run as individuals at the NCAA Championships. Sophomore Ben Vaughn (Great Falls, Mont.) posted a time of 31:14.30, good for a 25th place finish and All-Region recognition.
