PUEBLO, Colo. (October 9, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo cross country teams will compete in its final tuneup before the conference meet Saturday, as the ThunderWolves travel to Hays, Kansas to run at the Fort Hays State University Tiger Open.
The race is set for Sand Plum Nature Trail, located 10 miles east of Hays, just outside the west edge of the town of Victoria, Kan.
At 9:55 a.m., the 5K women's race kicks off, then the 8K men will follow at 10:30 a.m.
Team awards will be given to the top three teams in each of the races. Individual awards will be given to the top 25 finishers in each race.
Schools competing include: Adams State, CSU-Pueblo, Colorado Christian, Colorado College, East Central, Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Fort Lewis, Metro State, Nebraska-Kearney, New Mexico Highlands, Newman, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Oklahoma-Panhandle State, Oklahoma Christian, Pittsburg State, West Texas A&M, and Western State.
Both Pack teams stole all the top awards Oct. 3 at the Roadrunner Invitational at Washington Park in Denver. Both teams won the event, while the Pack crowed individual champions on both sides.
The women's team recorded a team time of 1:58:32 and placed three runners in the top five, which included the event winner in the 6K race, junior Bailey Hughes (Bigfork, Mont.). She ran a 22:31 and earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Confrence Runner of the Week honors.
The men's team recorded a combined 8K time of 2:12:39 to win by less than a second over host Metropolitain State University of Denver. Sophomore Derrick Williams (Columbia Falls, Mont.) paced the field of 45 runners with a time of 25:37.
