ThunderWolves men and women win Roadrunner Invitational Saturday


DENVER (October 3, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo cross country teams stole all the top awards Saturday at the Roadrunner Invitational at Washington Park in Denver. Both teams won the event, while the Pack crowed individual champions on both sides.

The women's team recorded a team time of 1:58:32 and placed three runners in the top five, which included the event winner in the 6K race, junior Bailey Hughes (Bigfork, Mont.). She ran a 22:31, while teammate sophomore Miriam Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) finished second with a time of 22:48. Junior Jordan Mathes (Boise, Idaho) crossed the finish line at 24:09 to place fourth.

The men's team recorded a combined 8K time of 2:12:39 to win by less than a second over host Metropolitain State University of Denver. Sophomore Derrick Williams (Columbia Falls, Mont.) paced the field of 45 runners with a time of 25:37.

Two other Pack athletes finished in the top 10, as freshman Marcelo Lagüera (Chihauhau, Mexico) recorded a time of 25:39. Sophomore Ben Vaughn (Great Falls, Mont.) ran a 26:32 to finish ninth.

Next, the ThunderWolves will run at the at Fort Hays Invite Oct. 10.
