COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 20, 2015) – Both the men's and women's Colorado State University-Pueblo cross country squads posted a runner-up finish at the Colorado College Invitational Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The Pack runners were second of 10 teams competeing in the meet, which was held at Monument Valley Park, while both sophomore Derrick Williams (Columbia Falls, Mont.) and junior Bailey Hughes (Bigfork, Mont.) crossed the finish line third in the men's and women's races, respectfully.
Williams posted a time of 25:30 in the 8K race with a mile average of 5:07. Freshman Marcelo Lagüera (Chihauhau, Mexico) finished just nine seconds after Williams and recorded a fifth-place finish.
Hughes was one of four Pack runners in the top 15, as she posted a 6K time of 22:31 (6:02 per mile). Sophomore Miriam Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) was fifth with a time of 22:36 and senior Shelby Sweeney (Worland, Wyo.) was also a top 10 finisher with a time of 23:18, good for ninth. Junior Jordan Mathes (Boise, Idaho) clocked a time of 23:36 for 14th.
Seven RMAC teams were represented on each side, which included the winner of the men's and women's races, Colordo School of Mines.
The ThunderWolves women totaled a team score of 57 with a total time of 1:57:12, which was 1:33 behind the Orediggers. The CSU-Pueblo men's team totaled 65 points and a team time of 2:13:19, which edged Adams State College by :01.
The Pack have a weekend off before traveling to Washington Park in Denver, Colo. Oct. 3 for the Roadrunner Invitational, hosted by Metro State University of Denver.
