JOHNSON, Kan. (September 13, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo cross country teams each had an individual win the Border Classic Friday to begin the 2015 season, as junior Bailey Hughes (Bigfork, Mont.) won on the women's side, while sophomore Derrick Williams (Columbia Falls, Mont.) guided the men.
The ThunderWolves women won the the four-team event, as the Pack finished 1-2-3 with Hughes posting a time of 14:19.3 in the 4K race, hosted by Fort Hays State University. Sophomore Miriam Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) finsihed second with a time of 14:25.8 and junior Jordan Mathes (Boise, Idaho) was third, as she crossed the finish line at 14:33.0.
The team time of 1:13:58 was just eight seconds faster than FHSU.
Williams guided the ThunderWolves to a third-place finish with a winning time of 15:02.6 in his first official event with the Pack. Also running their first events were freshman Marcelo Laguera (Chihuahua, Mexico), who finished fifth with a time of 15:22.0 and sophomore Ben Vaughan (Great Falls, Mont.), as he was eigth at 15:45.5.
CSU-Pueblo posted a team time of 1:19:21, but was just 33 seconds behind the winning team, West Texas A&M University.
Next for the Pack is the Colorado College Invite Sept. 19.
