Cross Country Starts Season in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado State University-Pueblo cross country team kicked off its season at the Colorado College Invite Saturday morning at Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs.

Andrea Fox set a new personal best, finishing the very hilly 6 kilometer in 28:37. Four ThunderWolf runners made their collegiate debut at the event. Sarah Lile led the way for CSU-Pueblo, placing 36th out of 77 runners.

Kristin Heinl, a former standout on the CSU-Pueblo women's basketball team, finished 40th overall followed by Rebecca Packard and Ashley Samek.

"We  were extremely pleased by this first result," said CSU-Pueblo head coach George Dallam. "This will create a baseline for further improvement throughout the rest of the year."

UCCS won the overall team event paced by All-American Shannon Payne, who coasted through the course in 22:14. Colorado College took second followed by Northern Colorado in third.

The ThunderWolves next race will be at the Fort Hays State Invitational on Oct. 7.
