BOULDER - The CSU-Pueblo cross country team showed improvement this weekend on the 5.8k course in Boulder at the Rocky Mountain Shootout. The field of 114 runners included 17 Division I and Division II schools with nationally ranked CU, Adams State, and Western State. Winning the race was UCCS's Shannon Payne with a time of 21:25.

The ThunderWolves were led by freshman Tara Lindsey-Chavez's 25:49(47th), the team finished 10th in the Division II bracket. Michele Herrera turned in a 26:41(55th) while sister Lindsey Herrera followed with a 28:03 (57th). Coach Chad Perry was pleased with the fact that the team's finish was an improvement on last year's performance. "We're doing a lot of good things right now in training and the girls are working hard. When we can go out and do better each time, good things will happen." Rounding out the team was Aubree Alley 29:48 (59th), Stephanie Rossol 30:18 (61st, and Cassidy Ferguson 30:19(63rd).

"Overall I am pleased with our training and I think the team is doing well," Pack coach Chad Perry said.  "Tara Lindsey-Chavez and Michele Herrera had a good meet, and the entire team is training hard and looking forward to improving every meet."

The team will be back on the course next Saturday when they travel to Kearney, Nebraska for the Loper Invite.
