Pack runners show growing pains at UCCS

ThunderWolves women's cross country runners were green in their first meet of the year, as a team ripe with freshman and inexperienced collegiate runners got their first crack at a cross country meet Saturday.

Led by two freshman, Tara Lindsey-Chavez (Fr., Arvada, Colo.) and Michelle Herrera (Fr., Pueblo West, Colo.), the ThunderWolves managed to get two runners under the 19-minute standard in the 4K meet.  Lindsey-Chavez paced all runners with a 17:55 mark, but was only good enough for 30th place out of 47 runners.

The Pack's lone senior, Lindsey Herrera (Sr., Pueblo West, Colo.), battled hamstring injuries for an 18:34 finish, in 35th place.

Pack coach Chad Perry said that the team showed good signs as it enters the maturing process, but still has a ways to go.

"Overall we are headed in right direction," Perry said, "and will train hard up until the meet in Boulder."

The ThunderWolves next meet is a month away, on Oct. 6, at the Rocky Mountain Shootout in Boulder.
