Chris Jonson, the second-longest-tenured coach in CSU-Pueblo volleyball history, is entering his fourth season as head coach at CSU-Pueblo.

Jonson is in year four of a major rebuilding project with the CSU-Pueblo volleyball program, and will be entering his third season with the same core group of players from his first recruiting class as head coach.

In 2009, Jonson’s squad earned the most wins in a single season since he had been head coach. After losing no graduating seniors from the 2009 squad, the 2010 is primed to be Jonson’s best yet. The future is also bright, as this year’s squad will also not see any seniors depart due to graduation.

Prior to becoming CSU-Pueblo’s head coach in 2007, Jonson spent three years as an assistant at fellow Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference school Metro State. At Metro, Jonson assisted in all aspects of running the program, with in emphasis in player development and weight training/conditioning.

During his time at Metro, the Roadrunners made three straight NCAA Southwest Regional appearances

Prior to his work at Metro State, he was the head coach for Flatirons Volleyball Club, where he coached the club’s 17s and 18s. He also served as the head junior varsity/assistant varsity coach at Ralston Valley High School in Arvada, Colo. He helped lead Ralston Valley to district championships in 2002 and 2003, as well as a regional championship and state tournament berth in 2003.

Jonson graduated from Colorado Christian University in 1999 with a degree in communications (speech specialization) and a minor in youth ministry. Jonson and his wife Jen have two daughters, Sadie and Jacey.
