COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Former CSU-Pueblo tennis all-American, Daniela Ivana, was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Century, the RMAC announced Wednesday. She is joined by former CSU-Pueblo tennis coach, Bob Scott, who was named the coach of the century.
Ivana, a two-time all-American at then-University of Southern Colorado, was a three-time RMAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year. She was an eight-time all-RMAC selection, earning four nods at No. 1 Singles and another four nods at No. 1 Doubles. In 2001, one of her all-American seasons, she suffered just one loss in singles play.
Scott, who coached at CSU-Pueblo from 1999-2006, led the ThunderWolf women to three regular season RMAC Champsionships and two RMAC Tournament championships (in 2005 and 2006). All-time, Scott was 34-5 (.872 winning percentage) in RMAC head-to-head matches.
The RMAC All-Time tennis teams were selected by representatives from schools that currently participate in the sport of tennis. Official records for RMAC men's tennis date back to 1973, while women's tennis started in 1978. It is known that the RMAC sponsored the sport of men's tennis as early as 1920.
The top six men's and women's tennis players as well as the best head coaches in RMAC tennis history were selected to help celebrate the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's 100th anniversary in 2009. The RMAC is the fourth oldest conference in the country, and the most historic in the western U.S. As part of the Centennial Celebration, all-time teams are being selected in 19 RMAC sports. The RMAC's Centennial Celebration will take place on July 11, 2009 at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs. A new all-time team will be recognized each month leading up to the celebration.
