COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (December 15, 2015) – April McDonough (So., Frisco, Texas) made Colorado State University Pueblo swimming & diving history again Tuesday. McDonough became the first Pack swimmer to earn the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week Award.
McDonough glided to a trio of wins against Colorado College Saturday. The sophomore swam her way to first place in the 100 yard freestyle (55.68), the 200 free (2:02.95), and the 500 free (5:33.49). She also helped the Pack's 200 yard freestyle relay team to second place finish.
McDonough led all swimmers with 27 points scored individually in the event. McDonough's three wins helped the Pack score 140 points in a narrow loss to the Tigers.
Already this season, McDonough has set school records in the 100 free (53.75) and the 500 free (5:09.24). She owns Pack records in the 200 free and 500 free as well.
Additionally, McDonough currently holds B cut times in both the 500 and 1000 free events. Her altitude adjusted 1000 free time of 10:29.10 ranks 18th nationally.
"It's time for CSU-Pueblo to be noticed," Head Coach Brian Pearson said. "She's earned it this year and I think people are taking notice of our accomplishments."
McDonough and the rest of the CSU-Pueblo swimming & diving team will enjoy a holiday break before returning to the pool Jan. 2 at the Citrus Classic in Mesa, Ariz. The Pack return to the Sam Jones Aquatic Center Jan.8 when they host Colorado School of Mines Jan. 8 at 6 :00 p.m. and Adams State Jan. 9. At 11:00 a.m.
As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
