Sannes wins four events to lead ThunderWolves at Colorado College Classic

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 18, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the Colorado College Classic Sunday, finishing the three-day meet in fourth place. Samantha Sannes (Fr., Torrance, Calif.) highlighted the weekend for the ThunderWolves, recording first-place finishes in four events.

Sannes kicked off the weekend for the Pack Friday evening, winning the 1650 freestyle in a time of 18:25.06. April McDonough (Fr., Frisco, Texas) gave CSU-Pueblo a one-two finish in the event, touching the wall in 18:38.82.

McDonough got things started Saturday morning with a fourth-place clocking in the 100 freestyle in a time of 56.10.

In the following event, Sannes recorded her second win of the classic, outdistancing the competition in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:47.54.

Emily Foster (Jr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) earned a win in the 100 breaststroke, clocking a final time of 1:09.87. It was Foster's fourth win this season in the event.

Two events later, McDonough registered a second-place time in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 2:02.64.

Magdalena Contreras-Gomez (Fr., Austin, Texas) notched a pair of fourth-place finishes during the weekend. The freshman notched a time of 2:23.74 in the 200 butterfly and a mark of 1:03.40 in the 100 butterfly.

In the 200 breaststroke, Foster and Leila Zijadic (Fr., North Vancouver, B.C., Canada) placed second and fourth, respectively. Foster recorded a time of 2:36.38, while Zijadic posted a mark of 2:42.97.

Sannes capped her strong weekend by winning back-to-back events. The freshman won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:22.10, with McDonough coming in right behind her in second place with a mark of 5:27.02. Sannes then proceeded to win the 200 individual medley for the third time this season with a time of 2:18.38.

The ThunderWolves will take part in their final dual meets before the RMAC Championships this weekend. CSU-Pueblo will swim at Colorado Mines Friday and Northern Colorado Saturday.
