PUEBLO, Colo. (January 14, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo swimming and diving team makes the short trip up I-25 to Colorado Springs this weekend to take part in the Colorado College Classic. The three-day event begins Friday evening and will conclude on Sunday afternoon.
A look at the ThunderWolves
CSU-Pueblo is coming off a solid showing at the Citrus Classic in Mesa, Ariz. Jan. 3. Emily Foster (Jr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) and April McDonough (Fr., Frisco, Texas) headlined the day for the ThunderWolves, placing first in two and one events, respectively. CSU-Pueblo recorded 325 points to finish fourth out of seven squads.
McDonough paces the Pack with 11 wins this season spread out over four different events, including the 200 freestyle (5 times), 100 freestyle (4 times), 500 freestyle (1 time) and 1000 freestyle (1 time). The freshman holds the top time for CSU-Pueblo this season in the 50 freestyle (26.00), 100 freestyle (54.95), 200 freestyle (1:58.23) and 500 freestyle (5:23.05).
Samantha Sannes (Fr., Torrance, Calif.) has won at least once in five different events. The freshman has wins in the 1000 freestyle (3 times), 200 individual medley (2 times), 400 individual medley (1 time), 1650 freestyle (1 time) and 500 freestyle (1 time). Sannes has program-best times in the 1650 freestyle (18:04.78), 400 individual medley (4:39.46) and 200 individual medley (2:13.93).
Foster owns wins in the 100 breaststroke (3 times) and 200 breaststroke (1 time) this season. The junior also holds the top times for CSU-Pueblo in both of those events with marks of 1:08.60 and 2:32.75 in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, respectively.
Magdalena Contreras-Gomez (Fr., Austin, Texas) has the top times for the Pack in the 100 (1:02.05) and 200 (2:14.90) butterfly. The Austin, Texas, native has one win this season, touching the wall first in the 100 butterfly Nov. 7 versus Colorado Mines.
The ThunderWolves will take part in their final dual meets before the RMAC Championships next weekend. CSU-Pueblo will swim at Colorado Mines Jan. 23 and Northern Colorado Jan. 24.
