PUEBLO, Colo. (December 3, 2014) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo swimming and diving squad travels to Grand Junction, Colo. this weekend to compete in the Colorado Mesa Invitational. The three-day event begins Thursday and concludes Saturday at Colorado Mesa University's El Pomar Natatorium.
A look at the ThunderWolves
The ThunderWolves (0-6 in dual meets) will be swimming in their first-ever invitational in program history.
CSU-Pueblo will take 10 swimmers to the event, which will also feature student-athletes from several Division I schools and other Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foes.
Headlining the lineup for the Pack this weekend are April McDonough (Fr., Frisco, Texas), Samantha Sannes (Fr., Torrance, Calif.), Sydney Anderson (Fr., Garden Grove, Calif.), Magdalene Contreras-Gomez (Fr., Austin, Texas) and Emily Foster (Jr., Santa Barbara, Calif.).
McDonough paces the Pack in event victories with eight. The freshman has three first-place finishes in both the 100 and 200 free and one win in both the 1000 and 500 free.
Sannes is second on the team in wins with five, placing first in the 1000 free twice and once in the 400 individual medley, 200 individual medley and 1650 free.
Anderson (100 back), Contreras-Gomez (100 fly) and Foster (100 breast) each have one win on the season.
Also competing this weekend for the ThunderWolves are Aimee Bond (R-Jr., Pueblo West, Colo.), Abbey Cira (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.), Kayla Strohmeyer (Fr., Round Rock, Texas), Taylor Wertz (Fr., Lamar Colo.) and Leila Zijadic (Fr., North Vancouver, B.C., Canada).
The Pack return to Pueblo for its final home meet of the 2014-15 season Dec. 12 against Colorado College. The meet will take place at Pueblo County High School and is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
