Swimming & Diving competes at Western and Adams State this weekend

PUEBLO, Colo. (November 20, 2014) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo swimming & diving squad takes to the road for its first-ever Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference away meets this weekend. The ThunderWolves swim at Western State Colorado University Friday at 3 p.m., before facing Adams State University Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Pack (0-4) will competing against both Western State and Adams State for the second time this season. CSU-Pueblo and the Mountaineers faced off in the ThunderWolves' inaugural meet, with Western coming away with a 144-61 victory. The Pack fell to the Grizzlies in their most recent contest Nov. 8, 102-84.

April McDonough (Fr., Frisco, Texas) has been the ThunderWolves' top swimmer this season, recording five event victories. McDonough has two first place finishes in both the 100 and 200 free and one win in the 1000 free. In the 200 free, McDonough owns the eighth best time in the RMAC this season, registering an altitude-adjusted mark of 1:57.3 against Mines. In the 1000 free, the freshman has the conference's ninth-best time at 10:58.48.

Samantha Sannes (Fr., Torrance, Calif.) owns two event victories this year, capturing first in the 400 IM versus Adams State and the 1000 free against Colorado Mines. Sannes altitude-adjusted time of 10:48.63 in the 1000 free against Mines ranks as the seventh best mark in the conference this fall.

Also holding first-place finishes for the Pack are Magdalena Contreras-Gomez (Fr., Austin, Texas) in the 100 butterfly versus Mines and Emily Foster (Jr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) in the 100 breaststroke against Adams State.

Western State has won three meets in a row after dropping its opening contest against Adams State. Most recently, the Mountaineers defeated Colorado Mines, 136-126.

Adams State is 3-0 in dual meets this season, collecting victories over Western State, the ThunderWolves and Colorado College.

Following this weekend's meets, CSU-Pueblo will head to Grand Junction, Colo. for the Colorado Mesa Invitational. The three-day event runs Dec. 4-6.
