ThunderWolves finish opening weekend unbeaten after win at Lubbock Christian

LUBBOCK, Tex. (September 3, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team stayed unbeated on the young season after defeating Lubbock Christian 2-1 Monday in nonconference action.

The Pack received scores by seniors Karley Whiteman (Alta Loma, Calif.) and Mackenzie Bean (Bothell, Wash.) to lead the way. Bean earned an assist on the Whiteman goal, her second in as many games.

Starting the match the Pack wasted little time in attacking the defense and fired four shots during the first twenty minutes and in the 23' started a four-shot flurry by the Pack before Whiteman shot from outside the 18-yard box into the left side netting for a 1-0 lead.

Over the next five minutes of play the ThunderWolves earned three corner kicks and attempted to double the lead with two shots at goal before halftime.

At intermission CSU-Pueblo held a 7-4 lead in shots and held a 4-3 corner kick advantage.

In the second half, the Pack's first shot attempt came from Bean who received a through ball served in by Michelle Moure (Sr., Peyton, Colo.) allowing Bean to go one-on-one the defense and quickly beat the keeper to extend the lead 2-0.

Lubbock got on the board in the 78th minute and continued to trail 2-1 with twelve minutes left in regulation.

Pack goalkeeper Rylie Martin (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) surrendered her first goal of the year but was stellar in the waning minutes. She faced five shots during the last four minutes of play which included three big saves at the net. The Chaps final attempt came with less than ten ticks remaining on the clock and Martin hauled in the ball and finished with five saves in the game.

Teammates Bean and Moure both collected three points on the weekend road trip for the Pack including the 2-0 win at West Texas in the season opener.

CSU-Pueblo (2-0) opens the home portion of the schedule and concludes nonconference play Friday and Sunday against Midwestern State (Sept. 7) and Fort Hays State (Sept. 9). Friday during halftime, CSU-Pueblo Athletics will honor its student-athletes that received a 3.0 GPA during the Spring 2018 semester on Dr. Dan Honor Roll Night.
