PUEBLO, Colo. (September 29, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team surrendered a two-goal lead with less than ten minutes left in regulation leading to a 3-3 draw versus Colorado Christian University Friday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
Colorado Christian scored the game's first goal in the 8th minute taking advantage of a free kick from 40 yards away for the early 1-0 lead.
The Pack quickly responded the following minute when Mackenzie Bean (Jr., Bothell, Wash.) took a pass from Michelle Moure (Jr., Peyton, Colo.) inside the box and tapped the ball past the diving goalkeeper evening the score at one apiece.
Throughout the first period CSU-Pueblo outplayed the Cougars managing six shots in the half to CCU's three and held a 3-0 corner kick advantage. The Pack took the lead in the 29th minute on a Cara Siegel (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) strike from the top of the box hitting inside the far post for the score. Bean was credited with the assist on the play.
To begin the second half the Pack played strong defense against a tough CCU attack. CSU-Pueblo created several more chances to score outshooting CCU 6-2 in the period.
The visitors cut into the lead 3-2 in the 82nd minute on a misplayed ball and just as fast scored the equalizer six minutes later on good ball movement in ThunderWolves' territory.
The Pack played the last four minutes of regulation on the attack, firing three of its sixteen shots in that span before heading into the extra time period.
In the first overtime the teams exchanged one shot each and in the second OT, the ThunderWolves fired three more shots at the goal but were unable to score.
CSU-Pueblo (4-3-1, 3-0-1 RMAC) goes on the road for six games beginning Sunday at No. 14 Colorado School of Mines. Kickoff is set for noon at Stermole Stadium in Golden, Colo.
