PUEBLO, Colo. (September 17, 2017) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team evened its record to 3-3 on the year and improved to 2-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play after defeating Adams State University 2-1 Sunday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
The ThunderWolves received goals by Callie Larson (Jr., Ogden, UT) in the first half and Michelle Moure (Jr., Peyton, Colo.) added her goal in the second half, both goals are first scores of the season for Larson and Moure.
Playing in their fifth game in nine days, CSU-Pueblo opened the match energy that overmatched the level of play from ASU.
The ThunderWolves were active in the first half, kicking eleven shots at the net to the Grizzlies' two shots in the period.
Larson connected her shot in the 39th minute off a rebounded ball off the post, nudging the ball on the ground past the goalkeeper.
Through forty-five minutes, CSU-Pueblo led 3-1 in corner kicks.
In the second half the Pack kept the intensity high and pressure on the visiting Grizzlies.
Just six minutes into the final period, Moure found herself at the top of the score box and received a pass from Kylee Sakaguchi (Jr., Apple Valley, Calif.) and Moure fired in one of her two shots in the game for the 2-0 advantage.
ASU cut into the lead in the 58th minute on swift passing across midfield, keeping Pack goalkeeper active and on her toes over the final thirty minutes of regulation.
A flurry of shots by ASU was for not as Martin remained a brick wall to secure the 2-1 Pack victory.
CSU-Pueblo (3-3, 2-0 RMAC) remains home and plays one game next week, Sept. 24 versus New Mexico Highlands at 12 PM at Gonzales Stadium. The women's game will take place ahead of the men's match versus Regis.
